Why an Apple Watch Should Be part of Your Smart Home Automation
A smart watch such as an Apple Watch is a great tool for monitoring and controlling your Smart Home. Essentially you have a mini dashboard on your wrist with customizable watch faces from Apple. You should definitely consider creating one for Smart Home Automation.
How to Use Your Apple Watch for Smart Home Control
The first thing to consider is the Smart Home Device Apps that may be available as an option on the Smart Watch. Not every device has a compatible app. Check to see how many of your smart device apps have an integration with the Apple Watch.
As an example LIFX has an app for controlling their light products that is available on the Apple Watch.
Once you discover what apps are available to integrate, you can begin to create your own Home Automation Watch Face like the one pictured below.

You can see from the above picture of the watch face the options we’ve added. At the top are the date and time however the center and the bottom of this watch face have the smart home apps.
The middle has “Watch Cam” which allows the Nest Cameras to display live feeds as well as notifications of movement. At the bottom from left to right are Vivint, LIFX, and Thermo Watch.
Vivint is a home security system and from the watch app we arm or disarm the system as well as lock or unlock the doors.
The LIFX app is at the bottom center of our watch face and this allows us to control the individual LIFX lights or groups we have created in our house.
The app on the bottom right is ThermoWatch, which allows us to control a NEST Thermostat. It’s important to point out that the Nest Cameras and the Nest Thermostat do not have apps for the Apple Watch. We had to use third party apps to integrate them.
Watch Cam is the app that displays the Nest Cameras and Thermo Watch allows integration with the Nest Thermostat.

Navigating the Challenges
